Re: warnings and opting out: Kars's backstory includes him perpetrating genocide of his own people, though it's very fantastical and largely glossed over, and this part of JJBA includes some bullshit like Sympathetic Nazi Characters (Kars is not among the characters sympathetic to them, but it's a big thing in the story) and poorly handled themes of racism (also not involving him) and sexism (somewhat more involving him). These won't come up in his threads, aside from some potential mild sexism, but if you want to opt out of playing with Kars entirely for these or literally any other reason, just let me know and I won't tag you, no offense taken and no questions asked. Know also that suicidal ideation is a thing with this character too, but that also won't come up without warning/discussion.
apogeal: (chuckle during funerals)
Jorge Joestar is a JJBA side story light novel by Maijō Ōtarō, in which Kars is a major character; the quote on the sidebar of this journal layout comes from it. I gather the novel isn't very popular in the fandom, though I enjoyed it quite a lot for what it is, but that's an aside! Just as a general statement in case anyone is curious about my characterization/recognizes that I quoted it there: I'm not using it as a canonpoint, and for the most part it won't inform the way I play him, as even though I like the novel and I also like Kars, my feeling is that it softens him quite a lot and treats him too sympathetically to be compatible with canon. That said, the one part I'm taking is the novel's backstory explanation of how exactly Kars was inspired to create the Stone Masks by humans themselves, as 1. it's a really interesting expansion of what little the original story gave us and 2. it doesn't contradict anything about the main canon's events or his characterization, only adds to both.

But with that out of the way, if anyone out there actually roleplays from the novel, especially modern-day-Japanese-version-Jorge, HMU. 😘

My race was complete as it was, and satisfied with that. And as a result they lacked ambition, made no progress of any kind, and lived a life of stagnation. But there’s a difference between being actually sufficient and simply not knowing that something is insufficient.
